Ambati Rayudu Calls for ‘Humanity’ and ‘Peace’ as India-Pakistan Tensions Escalate, Netizens Slam Cricketer

May 9, 2025: As tensions between India and Pakistan escalate following a series of cross-border military strikes, former India cricketer Ambati Rayudu has appealed for peace and compassion, quoting Mahatma Gandhi’s timeless words: “An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.”

Rayudu’s message comes in the aftermath of Pakistan’s attempted drone and missile strikes on Jammu and nearby military installations along the western border. The attacks, carried out on Thursday, triggered air raid sirens, blackouts, and emergency protocols across parts of Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan. Indian air defence systems successfully intercepted the strikes, preventing any major casualties.

These hostile actions are widely seen as retaliation for Operation Sindoor, a recent Indian military campaign targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The operation was launched in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives.

In the midst of this volatile situation, Rayudu took to social media platform X to post a heartfelt message.

“An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. Let’s remember — this isn’t a call for weakness, but a reminder of wisdom,” he wrote.

“Justice must stand firm, but never lose sight of humanity. We can love our nation fiercely and still hold compassion in our hearts.

Patriotism and peace can walk hand in hand. 🇮🇳🕊️❤️”

Rayudu’s call for empathy stood out in a climate increasingly marked by anger and division.

The rising tension also spilled into the sporting world, with the IPL 2025 match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) in Dharamsala being called off midway due to security concerns. Air raid alerts in nearby Jammu and Pathankot prompted authorities to evacuate the 23,000-capacity stadium to ensure the safety of players and fans.

With the safety of foreign players and logistical challenges under review, sources suggest the BCCI is currently holding an emergency meeting to determine the fate of the remainder of the tournament.

In these uncertain times, Rayudu’s message serves as a reminder that while justice is essential, it should not come at the cost of compassion and humanity.
