Amit Mishra Bids Farewell: Spin Wizard Retires After 25 Glorious Years in Cricket

Tendulkar, Gambhir, and BCCI hail Mishra’s remarkable journey; veteran spinner vows to guide the next generation of cricketers

New Delhi, September 5: The cricketing world came together to celebrate the career of one of India’s finest leg-spinners, Amit Mishra, as he announced his retirement from the game after a remarkable 25-year journey across formats.

Tributes poured in from legends, teammates, and fans. Sachin Tendulkar led the wishes, recalling Mishra’s dedication to Team India.

“Congratulations on a memorable career, @MishiAmit. I saw your commitment to the Indian team from close quarters. Best wishes for your second innings,” Tendulkar posted on X.

India’s current head coach and former opener Gautam Gambhir echoed similar sentiments:

“Congratulations on a wonderful career Mishi! Every time you picked the ball, there was magic waiting to happen!”

The BCCI too lauded his achievements, writing:

“Congratulations to Amit Mishra on a fine cricketing career. Best wishes for the road ahead.”

A Career Etched in Spin Magic

Mishra’s career was a story of perseverance, artistry, and consistency. Known for his guile, loop, and ability to outfox batters, he became synonymous with India’s spin arsenal, delivering match-winning spells in international cricket and dazzling performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Despite injuries that often tested his resolve, Mishra’s spirit remained unbroken. “These 25 years of my life in cricket have been nothing short of memorable,” he said in his farewell statement.

He expressed gratitude to the BCCI, Haryana Cricket Association, coaches, teammates, and family, and above all, to fans:

“Cricket has given me countless memories and invaluable learnings, and each moment on the ground has been a memory I’ll treasure for life.”

Beyond the Pitch

While the boots are hung up, Mishra has no plans of walking away from the game. He revealed that his future lies in coaching, commentary, and mentoring young talent, while also continuing to connect with fans through social media and YouTube.

“I want to stay as close to cricket as possible,” he said, signaling that his bond with the game—and the millions who adore him—will only grow stronger in this new phase.

A Legacy of Inspiration

From his debut in the early 2000s to his IPL heroics and his invaluable role in the Indian team, Amit Mishra leaves behind a legacy built on patience, skill, and love for the game. His story remains a beacon for young cricketers striving to make their mark.
