June 20, 2025:Day 4 of the first Test between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh at the Galle International Stadium turned into a gripping contest as the hosts mounted a strong comeback, narrowing the first-innings deficit and piling pressure on the visitors.
Bangladesh began the day strong, with openers Shadman Islam and Anamul Haque looking solid after early failures, keeping the Sri Lankan pacers at bay. However, the real drama unfolded as Sri Lanka collapsed, losing their last four wickets for just 15 runs. Nayeem Hasan emerged as the star for Bangladesh, grabbing a well-earned five-wicket haul (5/121) in 43.2 overs, helping Bangladesh secure a slender 10-run lead.

But Sri Lanka weren’t done. In a superb counterattack, Kamindu Mendis and Milan Rathnayake built a crucial partnership. Mendis anchored the innings with a fighting 87 before being dismissed by Nayeem Hasan, who delivered yet again at a pivotal moment. Rathnayake contributed a gritty 38. The pair’s 79-run stand had put Bangladesh on the back foot before Mendis’ dismissal breathed hope into the visitors’ camp.
Despite the breakthroughs, Sri Lanka had already erased most of the deficit and are eyeing a commanding lead. The match remains delicately poised as Bangladesh seek quick wickets to regain control, while Sri Lanka aim to build on their momentum.
