Arshdeep Singh Injured, Ajit Agarkar Names New Paceman for England Test Series
July 20, 2025: In a major setback for Team India ahead of the fourth Test against England, left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh has been all but ruled out of the remainder of the series after suffering a hand injury during a training session. In response, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee has named Anshul Kamboj as cover.
According to reports, Arshdeep was injured on Thursday while attempting to stop a straight drive by batter Sai Sudharsan during his follow-through in the nets. The ball struck his bowling hand, resulting in a deep cut that required stitches.
A BCCI source confirmed that Arshdeep will require a minimum of 10 days to recover, effectively ruling him out of both the 4th Test in Manchester (starting July 23) and likely the series finale on July 31.
“Arshdeep has a deep cut and has had stitches, he will take at least ten days to get completely fit. The selectors have decided to add Kamboj in the squad,” the BCCI source stated.
Anshul Kamboj, a promising young fast bowler, has now been included in the squad as a backup. While relatively inexperienced on the international stage, Kamboj has shown consistent performances in the domestic circuit and India A tours.
Adding to India’s concerns, Akash Deep is also facing fitness issues due to a groin injury sustained during the 3rd Test at Lord’s. He reportedly did not participate in the recent training session held ahead of the team’s trip to Manchester.
With both Arshdeep and Akash Deep uncertain, India’s fast-bowling attack is left with limited options for the crucial final leg of the series.
