Legendary spinner Rashid Khan will lead a 22-member preliminary squad for the upcoming T20I tri-series and Asia Cup 2025, as the team looks to build on its impressive semifinal run in the T20 World Cup.
August 6, 2025: The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has officially named a 22-member provisional team for the upcoming T20I tri-series against Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates, as well as the Asia Cup 2025.
Legendary spinner Rashid Khan will stay on as captain. The team will contain important players like Mohammad Nabi, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and Fazalhaq Farooqi.

Before the tournaments start, the team will spend two weeks training and getting ready. Mir Mubariz, who is on the ACB’s selection committee, said that the team is essentially set but might alter because of injuries. “We’ll probably take these 22 players to the Asia Cup, but there might be changes if someone gets hurt,” he told Cricbuzz.
Afghanistan did quite well in the T20 World Cup 2024, where they shocked many by making it to the quarterfinals. The team will try to keep that momentum going into the Asia Cup, which will take place in the UAE from September 9 to 28. Afghanistan’s campaign will start with a game against Hong Kong, followed by group stage games against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
