T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav, who is fit to play, will be present at the selection meeting. Reports suggest the selectors want to persist with the current opening pair, making it difficult for other top-order batsmen to find a spot.

August 15, 2025: On August 19 in Mumbai, the Indian cricket team will choose its players for the 2025 Asia Cup. T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav will be at the selection meeting, which is a big deal. This means he is fit and will continue to lead the team after having surgery for a sports hernia.

A source from the BCCI said that there may be some shocking omissions from the selection committee meeting, which will be followed by a press conference with chief selector Ajit Agarkar. Reports say that star batsmen Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal will probably not be in the team.

The reason they might not get picked is that the squad likes the present opening combo of Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma, which doesn’t leave much room for other top-order batters. A source said that Jaiswal has been told to focus on Test cricket, where he has been doing well, making 391 runs against Australia and 411 runs against England in recent series.

There was a lot of talk about Shubman Gill becoming the vice-captain, but now it’s not certain if he will be on the team. In July 2024, Gill and Jaiswal both played their last T20I. People say that the team’s long-term plan for the next T20 World Cup had an effect on the selectors’ choice.

The unveiling of the roster will be a big deal because the club needs to find a way to balance its top-order strength and get ready for the continental championship.
