Australian Bowler Jhye Richardson Pulls Out Of BBL As He Opts To Undergo Shoulder Surgery

January 12, 2025: Jhye Richardson, the Australian fast bowler, has opted for shoulder surgery, which will end his season and put his availability for the upcoming Ashes series in doubt. The 28-year-old has been struggling with a recurring shoulder issue since 2019, having undergone two previous surgeries on his right bowling shoulder. Richardson's injury woes have continued, with his shoulder dislocating again in November 2024, this time during a high-five celebration after taking a wicket in a Sheffield Shield match.

Richardson, who has been plagued by shoulder and hamstring injuries throughout his career, will miss out on playing for the Perth Scorchers in the ongoing BBL as they fight for a playoff spot. He was also part of Australia's squad for the final two Tests against India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy but will now be unavailable for those matches.

The right-arm quick made the decision to undergo surgery after discussions with his medical team, believing it to be the best course of action to improve stability and reduce future injury risks. His shoulder problems have made fielding increasingly challenging, limiting his ability to throw and even dive.

Richardson is hopeful that this surgery will set him up for a stronger and healthier return to cricket, including a good buildup to Shield cricket leading into next summer. He remains determined to rehab diligently to return as the best version of himself, with the Ashes and the rest of his career in mind.
