January 15, 2025: Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz continued his impressive run at the Australian Open, advancing to the third round after a dominant victory over Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka. Alcaraz won the match 6-0, 6-1, 6-4 in just 1 hour and 22 minutes. He displayed a perfect blend of power and finesse, with Nishioka struggling to keep up. Alcaraz dropped just four points in the opening set and remained in control throughout, securing the win with ease.
Speaking to the ATP website, Alcaraz expressed his satisfaction with the performance, emphasizing the importance of minimizing time spent on the court, especially in the early rounds of a Grand Slam. "I think the less time you spend on the court at the Grand Slams, especially at the beginning, the better, especially physically," he said. "I am feeling great. I just tried to be focused on spending as little time as I can."
Alcaraz extended his perfect record against left-handed players at Grand Slams to 8-0 and delivered 14 aces, with no break points faced. His serve, which he worked on extensively during the pre-season, was a highlight of his performance. After a slightly shaky start in the first round, Alcaraz was pleased with his improvement. "I am really happy with the service today. This is something that I worked on in the preseason... It worked pretty well today, and hopefully, it will be even better in the next round."
With the win, Alcaraz moves on to face Nuno Borges in the third round as he continues his quest to become the youngest player to win every Grand Slam title by the age of 21.
