Avesh Khan replaces Mohammed Shami in India’s squad for 2nd Test: IND vs AS

The fast bowler Avesh Khan was selected by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday to take Mohammed Shami’s place in the pacer for the second Test against South Africa, which is scheduled to begin in Cape Town on January 3. “The Men’s Selection Committee has named Mr Avesh Khan as a replacement for Mr Mohd. Shami for the second Test against South Africa to be played from 3rd-7th January 2024 in Cape Town,” according to an official statement from the BCCI. Because of his injury, Shami was ruled out of the series. Shami was part of the Test team when it first started, but he was not well enough to play in the series. He hasn’t played in a competitive match since the World Cup final on November 19 due to an ankle injury.

Avesh is called up as a replacement to support the pace attack in the Cape Town Test following India’s defeat by Proteas in the opening game in Centurion. Although Avesh was part of the Indian ODI team that played the Proteas recently, he has not yet made his Test debut. The pacer helped win the first game of the series at The Wanderers in Johannesburg during the ODI series against the Proteas. The Proteas were bowled out for 116 in 27.3 overs after he took 4/27, seriously damaging South Africa’s batting order. India won the match by eight wickets after reaching the target in 17 overs. In the meantime, India lost by an innings and thirty-two runs in the first Test of the two-match series. In order to avoid being swept clean, the team captained by Rohit Sharma will now look to recover and win the second and final Test of the series. In every area, hosts excelled over guests.

The visitors’ first innings score of 245 was made possible by a determined century from KL Rahul. Conversely, South Africa responded powerfully, as Dean Elgar—who will retire following this series—smashed an incredible 185. David Bedingham (56), Marco Jansen (84), and others each contributed noteworthy fifty-five runs as the hosts amassed a reasonable 408 in the first innings. India was bowled out for 131 after struggling in their second innings. India’s second-test squad: The following players represent India in the Tests: Mohd. Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, KS Bharat (wk), Abhimanyu Easwaran, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma (C), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul (wk).
