Bangladesh All-Rounder Shakib Al Hasan Fails Second Test Of Bowling Action

January 12, 2025: Shakib Al Hasan, the seasoned all-rounder from Bangladesh, has failed a second test of his bowling action and remains suspended from bowling in both domestic and international cricket. The latest independent assessment was conducted at the Sri Ramachandra Centre for Sports Science in Chennai last month. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed that the suspension would remain in place until Shakib successfully clears a reassessment.

Shakib’s bowling action was first reported by umpires during a County Championship match between Surrey and Somerset in September of the previous year. After failing the initial test at Loughborough University in the UK, he was suspended from bowling in all competitions organized by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Later, the suspension was extended to include all ICC-approved competitions.

While Shakib is currently unable to bowl, he is still eligible to play as a batsman in all forms of cricket, both domestically and internationally. This suspension is a significant blow to Bangladesh, especially with the Champions Trophy approaching in a month’s time.

In addition to the suspension, Shakib’s year has been filled with controversy, including his political role in the Awami League government and protests in Bangladesh. He missed his farewell Test match against South Africa due to these political tensions, and has also been absent from recent ODI series against Afghanistan and the West Indies. Shakib has been out of action since the India Test series in September.
