January 11, 2025: For the third consecutive year, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid are set to face off in the Supercopa de España (Spanish Super Cup) final, marking another exciting installment of the legendary El Clasico. The match will take place at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday.
Barcelona earned their place in the final with a 2-0 win over Athletic Bilbao in the first semi-final, while Real Madrid followed suit with a commanding 3-0 victory over Mallorca in the second semi-final.
The Supercopa de España is an annual competition organized by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to mark the start of the Spanish football season. It features four teams: the La Liga champions, Copa del Rey winners, and the runners-up from both competitions. This year, Real Madrid enters as the reigning La Liga champions, while Barcelona qualified as La Liga runners-up. Athletic Bilbao secured their spot after winning last season's Copa del Rey, and Mallorca were the runners-up.
Both Barcelona and Real Madrid boast rich histories in the Supercopa, with Barcelona holding the record for most titles with 14, while Real Madrid has 13. Last season, Real Madrid claimed the title with a dominant 4-1 win, while Barcelona triumphed the year before with a 3-1 victory.
This season, Real Madrid leads the La Liga standings with 43 points from 19 matches, while Barcelona sits third with 38 points from the same number of games. With both clubs vying for early-season silverware and bragging rights, this El Clasico promises to be another thrilling chapter in one of football’s fiercest rivalries.
