BCB Row Over ‘Indian Agent’ Remark

Board official’s comment on Tamim Iqbal sparks backlash

January 9, 2026: The Bangladesh Cricket Board is facing fresh internal unrest after finance committee chairman M Nazmul Islam made a controversial remark targeting former captain Tamim Iqbal. The comment followed Tamim’s interview in which he urged the board to keep politics away from cricket while deciding on T20 World Cup participation.

Nazmul posted on Facebook about the emergence of “yet another proven Indian agent”, without naming Tamim directly. The timing of the post triggered outrage, prompting the Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh to demand a public apology. CWAB called the remark shocking and insulting, questioning the conduct and accountability of BCB officials.

Former Bangladesh cricketers including Taijul Islam, Mominul Haque and Taskin Ahmed came out strongly in Tamim’s support. They termed the comment tasteless and humiliating, warning that such behaviour by board officials harms players’ dignity and damages the future of Bangladesh cricket.
