Digvesh Singh penalized for Level 1 Code of Conduct breach during Lucknow vs Punjab IPL 2025 clash at Ekana Stadium.

April 2, 2025 : The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has fined Lucknow Super Giants’ Digvesh Singh Rathi 25% of his match fees and handed him one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Punjab Kings at the Ekana Stadium, Lucknow, on Tuesday.

The incident occurred when Digvesh dismissed young PBKS batter Priyansh Arya and responded with a controversial “notebook send-off”, mimicking writing the batter’s name in an imaginary notebook—similar to West Indies’ Kesrick Williams’ signature celebration. The celebration didn’t sit well with the umpires or the cricketing fraternity.

The BCCI confirmed the penalty, stating:

“Digvesh Singh has been fined 25% of his match fee and given one demerit point for breaching Article 2.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct. He accepted the sanction.”

Sunil Gavaskar, on-air, strongly criticized the act:

“If a bowler gets excited over a top edge and starts acting out, it shows they didn’t expect a wicket. It’s not professional. You’ve got six deliveries—focus on those.”

The celebration followed Arya’s dismissal on 8 (9), caught by Shardul Thakur. Both players reportedly share a history, having played together in the Delhi T20 League.

LSG’s Bowling Struggles Continue

Digvesh was the only bright spot in an otherwise bleak bowling performance by LSG. He returned 2/30 in four overs, while PBKS chased down 173 in just 16.2 overs, powered by Prabhsimran Singh (69 off 34) and *Shreyas Iyer (52 off 30)**.

The dominant victory propelled Punjab Kings to second place in the IPL 2025 points table, tied on points with RCB and Delhi Capitals, each having won two games apiece.
