May 9, 2025: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the immediate suspension of the remaining fixtures of the ongoing IPL 2025 for one week, citing heightened national security concerns stemming from recent escalations between India and Pakistan.

In an official statement, the BCCI said the decision was taken after “due consultation with all key stakeholders” including franchisees, players, broadcasters, and sponsors. The move comes in the wake of concerns expressed by multiple franchises over the safety of players and logistical challenges posed by the current situation.

“While the BCCI reposes full faith in the strength and preparedness of our armed forces, the Board considered it prudent to act in the collective interest of all stakeholders,” the statement read.

The board also reaffirmed its support for the Government of India and the Indian Armed Forces, especially those engaged in Operation Sindoor — a military response to recent terrorist attacks and cross-border aggression.

“At this critical juncture, the BCCI stands firmly with the nation,” the statement continued. “There is nothing greater than the nation and its sovereignty, integrity, and security.”

While the remaining matches — including the playoffs and final — were scheduled to conclude by May 25, new dates and venues will be announced following a comprehensive reassessment in consultation with relevant authorities.
