BGT: High Chance Of Showers On Last Day Of Gabba Test

December 17, 2024: Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology has issued a high chance of showers for the fifth day of the third Test between India and Australia at the Gabba, Brisbane. This forecast, which predicts rain during the late morning and afternoon on Wednesday, could have significant implications for the final day’s play. The Bureau also mentioned the possibility of a severe thunderstorm, which could further disrupt the match.

As of day four, India were battling to stay in the game, trailing Australia by 193 runs with just one wicket remaining. India had shown resilience, especially through the efforts of KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja, who scored half-centuries, and a crucial 39-run partnership between Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep. Their resistance helped India reach 252/9, avoiding the follow-on and giving them a fighting chance to save the match on the final day.

However, the weather forecast casts uncertainty on how much play can be expected. If rain and thunderstorms do arrive as predicted, it could limit the time available for both teams to make progress, particularly for India, who are still fighting to avoid an innings defeat. Australia’s bowlers, led by Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc, will look to wrap up India’s innings quickly, while India will aim to extend their fight for as long as possible to make the most of any available play.

KL Rahul, speaking at the post-day press conference, expressed his frustration over the rain breaks, which have interrupted the flow of the game. “I think I got more tired running up and down from the dressing room than I did being in the middle,” Rahul joked, acknowledging the challenge of the constant stoppages. “It wasn’t easy for us, and I’m sure it wasn’t easy for them either. But it is what it is.”

The weather forecast adds another layer of uncertainty to what has already been a gripping Test, and both teams will be hoping for clear skies, allowing them to play the final day without too much disruption. The chances of rain and thunderstorms make the outcome of the match highly unpredictable as both teams look to make the most of whatever time remains.
