The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2025 has been rocked by controversy after franchise Durbar Rajshahi failed to clear dues owed to its foreign players, local cricketers, and staff. This financial mismanagement has left several players stranded in Dhaka, unable to return to their home countries.

A Cricbuzz report revealed that foreign players, including Mohammad Haris (Pakistan), Aftab Alam (Afghanistan), Mark Deyal (West Indies), Ryan Burl (Zimbabwe), and Miguel Cummins (West Indies), have received no payments despite repeated attempts to contact the team management. The team’s local players, too, checked out of their hotel rooms without being paid.
The situation worsened when the team’s bus driver, Mohammad Babul, locked the players’ kit bags inside the bus over unpaid wages. Speaking to reporters, Babul expressed his frustration, saying, “If they had paid us, we would have returned the kit bags. This is deeply regretful. We will only leave when our payments are cleared.”

Rajshahi’s performance in the tournament mirrored their off-field woes. The team finished fifth in the league, with just six wins out of 12 matches. Their campaign concluded with a loss against Sylhet Strikers on January 27.
Franchise owner Shafiq Rahman had assured players of flight tickets to their home countries, but the lack of payment has left them stranded. This financial debacle has tarnished the franchise’s image and drawn criticism from fans and cricketing bodies alike.
