Bumrah, Jaiswal, Jadeja Features In ICC Men’s Test Team Of The Year 2024, Check Full List

January 24, 2025: The ICC Men’s Test Team of the Year 2024 truly showcases the brilliant and diverse talents that dominated Test cricket this year. Indian players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah stand out for their exceptional performances across various series, with Jaiswal making a significant mark as a top opener and Bumrah continuing to solidify his status as one of the finest fast bowlers in Test cricket history. Jadeja’s all-round brilliance, contributing both with the bat and ball, is another key highlight.

The list also consists of premier Test stars like England’s Joe Root, New Zealand’s Kane Williamson and Australian skipper Pat Cummins.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s journey in 2024 is a true testament to his resilience and skill. After a rough patch in South Africa, he showed tremendous mental fortitude to come back stronger, especially with his stunning performances against England. Scoring 712 runs, including two double centuries, really showcased his potential. And it’s not just the big knocks — his ability to consistently make valuable contributions, like those three fifties against Bangladesh and his match-saving 161 in Perth during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, shows he’s made of the right stuff for Test cricket.

With 1,478 runs in a single calendar year and an average above 54, Jaiswal has proven he’s a force to be reckoned with. His ability to rise to the occasion in high-pressure series, especially with the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, is impressive for someone so young.

Kane Williamson’s 2024 season really highlights his class and determination. Even with injury setbacks, he still managed to stamp his authority on the game. Starting the year with those incredible centuries against South Africa, including a massive 403-run series total, showed that his technique and temperament remain top-notch. The dip in form against Australia was a bit of a blip, but his resurgence — especially in Sri Lanka and against England — demonstrated his ability to come back strong.

His match-winning 156 in the final innings of the year, which helped New Zealand finish on a high against England, is a testament to his leadership and skill under pressure. With an average of 59.58 and 1,013 runs in 2024, he really showed he’s still one of the finest Test batters, even if he doesn’t always get the same level of recognition as some of his contemporaries.

Ben Duckett, the resilient opener played a pivotal role in England’s Test success in 2024. His aggressive batting alongside fellow opener Zak Crawley, often laid the foundation for England to post massive totals.

Ben Duckett began the year with an impressive tour of India, emerging as England’s highest run-scorer with 343 runs, highlighted by a magnificent 153 in Rajkot. He carried his form into the home series against West Indies and Sri Lanka, scoring 178 and 186 runs, respectively.

On England’s tour of Pakistan, Duckett added 262 runs in five innings, including a superb century in Multan. He followed this up with 180 runs during the New Zealand tour, capping off a productive year.

Duckett’s consistency saw him finish as the third-highest run-scorer of 2024, behind only his compatriot Joe Root and India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal. In total, he amassed 1,149 runs at an average of 37.06, with two centuries and six fifties, with a stunning strike rate of over 87.

Harry Brook’s 2024 campaign has been a clear breakout year, showcasing his immense talent and future potential. The triple century against Pakistan is undoubtedly the highlight, solidifying his reputation as a game-changer for England in Test cricket.

His ability to play under pressure, like during that monumental partnership with Joe Root in Multan, shows his maturity and composure at the crease. The 350 runs in New Zealand further demonstrated his adaptability to different conditions, proving that his skills are versatile and not just suited to one type of pitch.

His 1,100 runs at an average of 55, with four centuries and three fifties, makes him one of the best of the year, and it’s clear he’s emerging as one of England’s premier Test batters for years to come. He still seems to fly under the radar a bit compared to some of the more established players like Joe Root or even some of the other international stars, but that could change quickly with a few more standout years.

Joe Root’s 2024 was a brilliant testament to his class and consistency in Test cricket. After a rough start in India, he came back strong, leading England’s batting with some monumental performances. His double century against Sri Lanka, coupled with his record-breaking feats at Lord’s, highlighted his skill and ability to adapt. Root’s 1,556 runs not only made him the second-highest run-scorer of the year but also reinforced his place as one of the greatest Test batsmen of all time.

His partnership with Harry Brook in Pakistan was one of the most memorable moments of the year, setting a new benchmark for the highest partnership in Test cricket. With the consistency of his batting, Root’s performances this year helped solidify his reputation, not just in England, but worldwide.

Kamindu Mendis’s return to Test cricket in 2024 was nothing short of sensational. His performances, especially his double-century feats against Bangladesh, were a testament to his talent after a nearly two-year hiatus. Mendis finished the year as one of the top run-scorers with 1,049 runs at an exceptional average of 74.92, cementing his place as one of Sri Lanka’s key players.

Jamie Smith, another impressive young talent, also had a breakout year in 2024. As England’s wicketkeeper-batter, he made an instant impact with consistent contributions, including a maiden century and several crucial fifties. His solid all-round performances helped to strengthen his role as the future of England’s wicketkeeping.

Ravindra Jadeja showcased his all-round brilliance once again. The Indian star played key roles with both bat and ball, especially with his match-winning 100 against England and a ten-wicket haul against New Zealand. His performance at the Gabba was particularly memorable, adding crucial runs and taking pivotal wickets, as usual.

Pat Cummins, the Australian captain, had another stellar year, leading his side to victory in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and contributing significantly with both bat and ball. His leadership qualities and consistency were on full display, with his outstanding wicket-taking abilities and vital contributions lower down the order.

Matt Henry’s phenomenal year as New Zealand’s pace spearhead stood out. With 48 wickets, including remarkable performances against Australia and India, Henry’s consistency across all conditions made him a key figure in New Zealand’s bowling lineup.

Jasprit Bumrah, perhaps the most exceptional bowler of 2024, continued to leave his mark in every series he played. With 71 wickets, including five five-wicket hauls, he dominated the year and solidified his place as one of the game’s greatest fast bowlers. His leadership in India’s successful series against Australia showcased his ability to step up in big moments.

These performances, spanning batting and bowling, highlight the depth and talent in Test cricket this year. Who stood out the most to you from this incredible lineup?
