July 2025: CBS Sports Golazo says that after a successful season in the Premier League, Liverpool manager Arne Slot has a new problem: getting a lot of fresh players to work with his title-winning team. The job was hard for them in their recent chaotic 4-2 preseason loss to AC Milan, which shows how hard things will be when the Premier League season starts in less than a month.

Liverpool has already signed four new starters: Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for £116 million, Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt for £79 million, Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen for £30 million, and Milos Kerkez from AFC Bournemouth for £40 million. Alexander Isak has been connected to the team, and Luis Diaz is said to be a target for Bayern Munich. They have already had a £58.5m deal turned down, but they are still trying. Diaz was left out of the squad for the friendly against Milan because there were rumors about him moving. Trent Alexander-Arnold has also left and joined Real Madrid.

If Diaz leaves, a possible starting XI for the next season may be Alisson, Milos Kerkez, Virgil Van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Jeremie Frimpong, Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Florian Wirtz, and Hugo Ekitike.

Slot has a tactical problem on his hands with all this new quality coming in, especially since some of the new players, like Florian Wirtz, are best in positions that don’t fit with Liverpool’s usual 4-3-3 configuration. Ryan Gravenberch can play in both the midfield and defense, but Liverpool has a lot of players who are more suited for a 3-4-3 configuration, which means they may change formations in the future. In a close fight for the Premier League title, Slot has to make the proper changes swiftly to keep Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester City from getting better.

Slot’s ability to design a system that worked over and over again helped Liverpool win the Premier League title in his first season as manager, which was a surprise after he took over for Jurgen Klopp. Opponents will have more information about Liverpool’s tactics this season, though. With Trent Alexander-Arnold gone, the job of making chances will move up the field even more. Wirtz is expected to help out here, although at Leverkusen, he was naturally a dual No. 10. As seen in the preseason game against Milan, using him as a striker might leave him alone.

People have high hopes for Liverpool since they have put a lot of money into keeping them at the top. Now, it’s up to Slot to make the changes that need to be made quickly so that they can stay there.
