March 5, 2025: Former India cricketer Ambati Rayudu showered praise on Virat Kohli after his match-winning performance in the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 semifinal against Australia in Dubai. Speaking on JioHotstar, Rayudu hailed Kohli’s skill, composure, and his ability to perform under pressure, labeling him as a “once-in-a-generation cricketer” and the “greatest of all time” in One-Day International cricket.
Rayudu particularly admired Kohli’s technique against spin bowlers, highlighting his exceptional ability to play against both leg spin and left-arm spin. “I think his skill against leg spin and left-arm spin, along with his ability to rotate the strike through mid-wicket and square leg, was exceptional. On a pitch that was turning and stopping, he made it look effortless, which speaks volumes about his skill,” Rayudu said.

He went on to emphasize Kohli’s match awareness and adaptability, underlining that it wasn’t just about hitting boundaries but about composure and the ability to adapt to the match situation. “Never doubt his ability to hit fours or sixes–it’s about composure and understanding what is needed on the day, then executing it to perfection,” Rayudu added.

Kohli’s crucial knock of 84 runs off 98 balls, which included five boundaries, played a pivotal role in India’s four-wicket victory over Australia. His steady innings guided India to a spot in the Champions Trophy final, much to the delight of cricket fans across the country. “He is a once-in-a-generation cricketer, the greatest of all time in this format. It’s a special night for him, his family, and 150 crore Indians who are blessed to witness his greatness,” Rayudu remarked, capturing Kohli’s significance in Indian cricket.
With this victory, India sealed their place in the Champions Trophy final, bringing them one step closer to adding another major ICC title to their trophy cabinet.
