February 21, 2025: KL Rahul was awarded the fielder of the match for his exceptional performance behind the stumps during India's opening match of the ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025 against Bangladesh, held at the Dubai International Stadium on Thursday.

Rahul's brilliant fielding included three crucial catches, all behind the stumps. He took the wickets of Tanzid Hasan, Soumya Sarkar, and Mushfiqur Rahim, playing a vital role in India’s victory. Along with Rahul, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli were also nominated for the fielder of the match, but it was Rahul's sharp keeping that earned him the honor.

The 32-year-old received the best fielder medal from teammate Ravindra Jadeja in the dressing room after the award was announced on the giant screen at the Dubai Stadium.

Apart from his standout fielding, Rahul also contributed with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 41 runs off 47 balls, including two sixes and one boundary.

The match was highlighted by a sensational century from Shubman Gill, who was named the ‘Player of the Match’ for his brilliant 101* off 129 balls, which included nine fours and two sixes. Mohammed Shami's impressive five-wicket haul also stood out in India's comprehensive six-wicket victory over Bangladesh.

India will now look ahead to their next match against arch-rivals Pakistan, scheduled for Sunday, February 23, at the Dubai International Stadium.
