Chelsea’s Mykhailo Mudryk Officially Charged in Anti-Doping Violation, Faces Potential Four-Year Ban

The Ukrainian winger tested positive for meldonium in December; FA confirms formal charges as investigation continues.

June 19, 2025: Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been officially charged by the Football Association (FA) for violating anti-doping rules, months after testing positive for a prohibited substance during a routine drug test.

The 24-year-old Ukraine international has not featured for Chelsea since November 28, 2024, following his provisional suspension after an “adverse finding” was discovered in a urine sample collected in December.

⚠️ Meldonium Detected

Multiple reports indicate that the banned performance-enhancing drug meldonium—previously at the center of doping scandals in other sports—was the substance found in Mudryk’s sample. The FA, in its statement issued on Wednesday (June 18, 2025), confirmed that Mudryk has been charged under regulations 3 and 4 of its anti-doping policy.

“We can confirm that Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with anti-doping rule violations alleging the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance,” read the FA’s official release. “As this is an ongoing case, we are not in a position to comment further at this time.”

💬 Mudryk: “Complete Shock”

In response to the initial findings, Mudryk had maintained his innocence, saying he was in “complete shock” and asserting he had “never knowingly used any banned substances.” His representatives have since cooperated with the club and regulatory bodies as the investigation progressed.

📌 Chelsea’s Stand & B Sample

Chelsea FC had launched its own internal inquiry into the matter and had reportedly been awaiting the outcome of the ‘B’ sample analysis, which could either confirm or contradict the results of the initial ‘A’ test.

The club has yet to issue a new statement following the FA’s formal charge, but sources close to Stamford Bridge indicate that they are preparing for all scenarios, including a long-term suspension.

⏳ What Happens Next?

If found guilty, Mudryk could face a ban of up to four years, as stipulated by the FA’s anti-doping code. Legal counsel is likely to play a crucial role, and appeals or mitigating circumstances may impact the final outcome.

Signed for a hefty fee from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023, Mudryk has struggled with form and fitness, and this latest setback threatens to derail what was once a promising Premier League career.
