Cleveland Browns’ Jordan Hicks Announces Retirement Days Into Training Camp

July 25, 2025: Just days into their 2025 NFL season training camp, the Cleveland Browns have been dealt a surprising blow with the retirement of one of their key defenders, linebacker Jordan Hicks. The announcement came unexpectedly during camp, leaving a significant void in the team’s defensive unit.

After a commendable 10-season career in the NFL, the 33-year-old Hicks stated he is ready to hang up his cleats. His retirement statement, shared on social media, expressed deep gratitude for his football journey and a readiness to embrace the next phase of his life. He explicitly framed it as a personal decision, notably without mentioning any injuries, health concerns, or other specific triggers for the sudden timing. It appears to be a choice made for his own peace and well-being.

A Career Marked by Dedication and Impact

“After 23 years of playing football, I’m officially retiring from the NFL,” Hicks wrote. “Football has given me more than I could have ever imagined. Purpose, discipline, brotherhood, and a platform to impact others. But most important it showed me who I am outside the game. I leave this chapter with deep gratitude for every lesson, challenge, and victory. I’m proud of what I accomplished on the field, but even more proud of the man I’ve become because of it.”

He continued, thanking his supporters: “To my teammates, coaches, fans, and most importantly my family.. thank you for your unwavering support throughout this journey. I’m looking forward to this next season of life and all that it brings. I walk away with peace knowing I gave football all I had, and that the best is yet to come.”

At 33 years old, Hicks was projected to compete for a starting role with the Browns after contributing significantly in 2024. Over his career, he amassed impressive statistics, including 951 total tackles, 16.5 sacks, six forced fumbles, 11 fumble recoveries, 13 interceptions, a defensive touchdown, and 53 defended passes across 134 games.

His departure creates a notable gap in leadership and experience on the Browns’ defense, particularly as the season rapidly approaches.
