BCCI Fires Three Support Staff From Gautam Gambhir’s Team After Border-Gavaskar Trophy Loss and Dressing Room Leak
April 17, 2025: The BCCI is reportedly preparing to remove three members of Gautam Gambhir’s support staff following India’s 3-1 defeat to Australia in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The decision comes amid concerns over dressing room leaks, which have stirred unrest within the team environment.
While series defeats are a part of the game, what alarmed the cricket board was the frequency and sensitivity of internal team information leaking into the media during and after the series. Allegations emerged that head coach Gautam Gambhir blamed Sarfaraz Khan for the leaks, and that a player had lobbied for interim captaincy during the tour—claims which remain unverified.
According to a report by Dainik Jagran, the BCCI has acted swiftly and will be terminating the services of assistant coach Abhishek Nayar, who was just eight months into his role with the national team. Additionally, fielding coach T Dilip and trainer Soham Desai, both of whom have completed over three years with the team, are expected to be released from their duties.

Notably, no fresh appointments will be made for Nayar and Dilip’s roles. Ryan ten Doeschate, the former Dutch international and Kolkata Knight Riders veteran, will take over fielding duties. Meanwhile, Adrian Le Roux, a renowned fitness expert currently with the Punjab Kings and formerly with the Indian team and KKR, will replace Desai as strength and conditioning coach post-IPL.
Earlier, head coach Gambhir responded to the controversy during a press conference, stating:
“Debates between coach and player should remain in the dressing room… There were honest words. Honesty is important. The only thing that keeps you in the dressing room is performance.”
He also downplayed reports of rift within the squad, saying they were “just reports, not the truth.” Emphasizing team-first ideology, Gambhir reiterated the need for accountability and selflessness in team sport.
The BCCI is expected to issue an official statement soon. Meanwhile, Gambhir’s leadership and the revamped backroom staff will be under close watch as India prepares for upcoming assignments.
