Bhuvneshwar Kumar Joins Dwayne Bravo As Joint-Highest Wicket-Taker Among Pacers In IPL History

April 3, 2025: In a dramatic IPL 2025 encounter, seasoned fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar created history by becoming the joint-highest wicket-taker among pacers in the Indian Premier League, achieving a significant milestone during his spell for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) against Gujarat Titans.

Although RCB fell short in defending their 170-run total, succumbing to an eight-wicket defeat at their home ground, the match still held a personal achievement for Bhuvneshwar. The bowler put in an exceptional performance, dismissing GT’s captain Shubman Gill early on, returning figures of 1/23 from his four overs. Despite the loss, Bhuvneshwar’s impact was undeniable as he matched Dwayne Bravo’s record of 183 wickets in the IPL. Bravo had reached 183 wickets in 161 appearances, while Bhuvneshwar achieved this feat in 178 matches, showcasing his consistency and longevity in the league.

Bhuvneshwar’s achievement has seen him rise to joint-third in the all-time IPL wicket-taking charts, behind only Yuzvendra Chahal (206 wickets) and Piyush Chawla (192 wickets). His ability to swing the ball both ways and his disciplined approach earned him the title of the most economical bowler for RCB, conceding just 5.80 runs per over.

RCB, chasing a challenging 170-run total, was quickly put on the back foot by Gujarat’s efficient chase. Despite an early breakthrough by Bhuvneshwar, Gujarat’s Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler formed a vital partnership, scoring 75 runs together to put their team in control. While RCB’s bowlers, including Josh Hazlewood, tried to keep things in check, the damage was already done.

As the game progressed, Sherfane Rutherford, brought in as an impact substitute, and Jos Buttler sealed the game for Gujarat. Rutherford’s powerful hitting, including a six over deep backward square, finished the match in style for GT, ensuring they crossed the target with ease, thus marking a dominant victory.

RCB’s defeat, despite the historic achievement from Bhuvneshwar, highlighted a need for better strategies at home, while Gujarat Titans once again proved their strength in a run-chase, setting up a thrilling finish with a commanding win.
