Breaking News: Piyush Chawla Makes Major Announcement — Fans Eager for Details!
June 6, 2025: After over two decades of dedication, World Cup-winning leg-spinner Piyush Chawla has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.
Chawla, who made his mark with his crafty leg-spin, was part of India’s historic T20 World Cup win in 2007 and the ODI World Cup triumph in 2011. He played 3 Tests, 25 ODIs, and 7 T20Is for India, taking a total of 43 international wickets.

In franchise cricket, Chawla carved out a legacy in the Indian Premier League (IPL), becoming the joint third-highest wicket-taker in the tournament’s history with 192 wickets in 192 matches. He featured for several franchises including Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Chennai Super Kings, and Mumbai Indians, winning the IPL with KKR in 2014 — where he famously hit the winning runs in the final.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Chawla wrote:
“After more than two decades on the field, the time has come to bid adieu to the beautiful game. Though I step away from the crease, cricket will always live within me.”
He also expressed deep gratitude to his coaches, teams, IPL franchises, and late father for shaping his journey.
“These memories will forever remain etched in my heart,” he added, calling IPL a “special chapter” in his life.
Starting his cricketing career at just 15, Chawla first turned heads by bowling out Sachin Tendulkar with a googly in the Challenger Trophy 2005-06. Over the years, he amassed over 1000 wickets across domestic formats, leaving behind a rich legacy.
