July 03, 2025: Captain Shubman Gill produced a masterclass at Edgbaston, smashing his maiden double century to lead India to a massive 587 all out on Day 2 of the second Test against England. Gill’s 269 off 387 deliveries not only anchored the innings but also set multiple records. He became the first Indian and Asian captain to score a double hundred in a Test in England, surpassing Sunil Gavaskar’s 221 at The Oval in 1979 to claim the highest individual score by an Indian batter on English soil.

Gill found valuable support from Yashasvi Jaiswal (87) and Ravindra Jadeja (89), who helped pile the runs against a weary English attack. For the hosts, off-spinner Shoaib Bashir stood out with three wickets but couldn’t prevent India from posting a daunting first-innings total.
