Cheteshwar Pujara, Ambati Rayudu Praise Tim David’s Gritty Knock Against PBKS Despite RCB Collapse

April 19, 2025: Veteran Indian batter Cheteshwar Pujara and former cricketer Ambati Rayudu heaped praise on Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) middle-order batter Tim David for his valiant half-century against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Despite RCB’s collapse and eventual defeat, David’s knock stood out as a bright spot.

Speaking on ESPNcricinfo, Pujara lauded David for his clarity and composure under pressure. “It looked like he was aware of the lengths the bowlers were going to bowl, and he had a clear game plan—what kind of shots he wanted to play on that pitch. When you have clarity, it becomes easier. He used this opportunity in his favour, and I’m sure his confidence will be boosted after this,” Pujara said.

Ambati Rayudu echoed similar sentiments, calling David’s performance “a brilliant knock under pressure.” He appreciated the way the Australian power-hitter paced his innings amid a collapse that saw RCB lose seven wickets for just 42 runs.

“He played a brilliant knock under pressure. He took his time and paced the innings so beautifully. If he had someone to partner with, it would have been 120 or 130 for RCB. But some amazing batting,” said Rayudu.

Tim David’s 25-ball 50 helped RCB scrape to a total of 95/9 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The score was far from competitive, but it could have been worse without David’s intervention. His explosive innings was laced with power and intent, showcasing why he remains one of the most dangerous finishers in T20 cricket.

Josh Hazlewood’s spell of 3/14 briefly raised hopes for the home side, but Punjab Kings chased the target with five wickets in hand and 11 balls to spare.

Despite the loss, David was named Player of the Match, a rare recognition for a player from the losing side, highlighting the impact of his performance.

RCB remain winless at home after three matches and now face a quick turnaround as they travel to Mullanpur to play the reverse fixture against PBKS on April 20.
