December 5, 2024: Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli’s recent public appearance at a memorial event for legendary coach Ramakant Achrekar has sparked widespread concern among fans regarding his health. A viral video from the event shows Kambli visibly struggling, clinging to the hand of his childhood friend Sachin Tendulkar and unable to stand properly.
Earlier, another video surfaced showing Kambli struggling to walk on a public road, further raising questions about his well-being. In response to these incidents, a close friend has revealed alarming details about Kambli’s health struggles, sharing that he has undergone rehab 14 times but has yet to recover fully.
“There’s no point in him going for rehab—Kambli has already gone to rehab 14 times! Thrice we took him to a rehab in Vasai,” said the friend, who recently visited Kambli at his Bandra residence following the initial video.
Kambli has also received support from cricketing legends, including former Indian team captain Kapil Dev. However, Kapil emphasized that Kambli must take the initiative for his recovery.
“Kapil Dev has told me clearly that if Kambli wants to go to rehab, we are willing to help him financially,” said Balwinder Singh Sandhu, a former India fast bowler and member of the 1983 World Cup-winning team. “However, he has to check into rehab himself first. Only if he does that, we are ready to foot the bill, irrespective of how long the treatment lasts.”
Kambli and Sachin Tendulkar share a rich cricketing history, having formed a record-breaking partnership of 664 runs during a Harris Shield match while representing Shardashram Vidyamandir. Both players went on to represent India on the international stage, but while Tendulkar cemented his legacy as one of the greatest cricketers in history, Kambli’s career faltered due to disciplinary issues and off-field struggles.
The recent revelations and viral clips have reignited discussions about Kambli’s challenges and the support he needs to regain stability.
