Did Bumrah Just Rip Through England’s Core in 10 Minutes at Lord’s?

July 10, 2025: Jasprit Bumrah set Lord’s ablaze on Day 2 of the third Test between India and England with a searing spell that ripped through England’s middle order in a dramatic morning session.

The day began with Joe Root completing his 37th Test century off the first delivery. However, what followed was a complete turnaround, courtesy of Bumrah’s sensational burst with the red ball. Having picked just one wicket on Day 1, the Indian pace spearhead returned to dismiss Ben Stokes, Joe Root, and Chris Woakes in a span of 30 minutes, triggering a major English collapse.

Resuming at 251/5, Stokes and Root carried forward their 79-run partnership. But Bumrah shattered their plans quickly. In the 86th over, he delivered a beauty to Ben Stokes — a good length ball that beat the left-hander’s defence and clipped the top of off-stump.

In his next over, Bumrah struck again — this time removing centurion Root. The ball, pitched slightly fuller, took an inside edge and crashed into the middle stump, sending Root back after a well-fought knock.

The very next delivery accounted for Chris Woakes, who edged a fuller ball that rose sharply. Though neither Bumrah nor stand-in wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel were certain, a confident call from the slip cordon prompted captain Shubman Gill to opt for DRS. UltraEdge confirmed the faint nick, and India finally had a successful review after several failed attempts.

While Bumrah narrowly missed a hat-trick, his fiery triple-strike left England reeling at 271/7, losing two key batters and a reliable all-rounder in quick succession. From a solid position at stumps on Day 1, the hosts suddenly found themselves on the back foot, struggling against India’s charged-up bowling attack.
