May 2, 2025: Harbhajan Singh has praised his former team, Mumbai Indians (MI), as the “team to beat” in the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), forecasting that the five-time champions will finish in the top two of the group standings.
MI, a team known for starting slowly but accelerating towards the end of the group stage, has once again showcased their signature style. On Thursday, they defeated Rajasthan Royals with a dominating 100-run victory, securing their sixth consecutive win and climbing to the top of the IPL standings.
Harbhajan, a former MI star, noted that the team’s winning formula was on full display. Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton led the charge with an explosive opening partnership of 116 runs, setting the tone for MI’s innings. Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya further dismantled Rajasthan’s bowling attack, propelling MI to an impressive total of 217/2.

In response, MI’s bowling attack, spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, and experienced spinner Karn Sharma, dominated Rajasthan’s batting line-up. The Royals could not recover, and MI sealed a comprehensive victory to leave Rajasthan struggling in their quest for a playoff spot.
Harbhajan Singh, reflecting on MI’s overall dominance, said, “Total dominance from MI. They are a champion team playing like a champion team. It will be hard for any team to catch up to them. Of the 11 players, nine or 10 can win the game singlehandedly. MI is the team to beat. I believe they will finish in the top two spots. They can finish anywhere with 18 or 20 points.”
With their unstoppable momentum and match-winning players across the board, MI is proving why they are a formidable force in IPL 2025, and Harbhajan’s predictions make it clear that they will be a team to watch in the race for the playoffs.
