October 10, 2024: Star England batter Harry Brook has etched his name in cricket history by becoming the sixth player from England to score a triple century in Test cricket.

He achieved this remarkable feat during the fourth day of the first Test against Pakistan, finishing his innings with an impressive 317 runs off just 322 balls, which included 29 boundaries and three sixes.

Brook’s achievement places him alongside some of the greatest batsmen in English cricket history. The other players who have scored a triple century for England are:

  1. Len Hutton – 364 runs vs. Australia (1938)
  2. Wally Hammond – 336* vs. New Zealand (1933)
  3. Graham Gooch – 333 runs vs. India (1990)
  4. Andy Sandham – 325 runs vs. West Indies (1930)
  5. John Edrich – 310* vs. New Zealand (1965)

Additionally, with his innings, Brook became the fifth player to score a triple century against Pakistan in Test cricket. The others include:

  1. Garry Sobers – 365* (West Indies, 1958)
  2. David Warner – 335* (Australia, 2019)
  3. Mark Taylor – 334* (Australia, 1998)
  4. Virender Sehwag – 309 (India, 2004)

In this Test match, Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first, posting a formidable total of 556 runs in their first innings. Notable contributions came from:

  • Shan Masood – 151 runs off 177 balls (13 fours, 2 sixes)
  • Abdullah Shafique – 102 runs off 184 balls (12 fours)
  • Saud Shakeel – 82 runs off 177 balls (8 fours)

Jack Leach was the standout bowler for England, taking 3 wickets for 160 runs, while Brydon Carse and Gus Atkinson claimed two wickets each.

In reply, England not only surpassed Pakistan’s total but also set a new record. They scored 823 runs for the loss of 7 wickets, with a record partnership of 454 runs between Joe Root and Harry Brook. Joe Root also had a phenomenal innings, scoring 262 runs off 375 balls (17 fours).

Following this massive lead of 277 runs, England declared their innings, putting themselves in a dominant position in the match.
