How One Bumrah Yorker Changed Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2025 Fate?

May 31, 2025: From languishing at the bottom of the points table to standing one win away from the IPL 2025 final, the Mumbai Indians remarkable turnaround has been nothing short of cinematic. But on the night of the Eliminator, their journey teetered on the brink — until Jasprit Bumrah delivered a moment of brilliance that could define their season.

Facing a daunting target of 229, the Gujarat Titans were firmly in control with Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar crafting an 84-run partnership that threatened to snatch the game away. With Gujarat needing just 59 from 27 balls and momentum on their side, Hardik Pandya turned to his trump card: Jasprit Bumrah.

And as he has done so many times before, Bumrah delivered.

The Ball That Changed the Game

Brought into the attack in the 14th over, Bumrah immediately tightened the screws with three dot balls, conceding only three singles to the set pair. Then, on his fourth delivery, he unleashed a searing yorker — one that will be remembered as the ball of the night.

Washington Sundar, well-set and confident, could only watch in despair as the toe-crushing delivery speared through his legs and cannoned into the stumps. The dismissal, awkward and humbling, left Sundar momentarily frozen in disbelief — almost bowing to the unplayable perfection Bumrah had produced.

“When you need him, he’s always there,” exclaimed veteran commentator Harsha Bhogle, summing up what fans across the globe felt in that moment.

Bumrah the Clutch Master

Bumrah ended his spell with figures of 1 for 27 in 4 overs, but the solitary wicket he claimed may have been the most crucial of the match. With Gujarat needing to maintain their onslaught, the fall of Sundar disrupted their rhythm and helped Mumbai seize back control.

The match eventually tilted in Mumbai’s favor as the Gujarat Titans failed to recover from the blow, falling short in the final stretch and crashing out of the tournament.

One Step from Glory

The win now propels Mumbai Indians into Qualifier 2, putting them within touching distance of a record-extending sixth IPL title. For a team that struggled early in the season, their resurgence has been dramatic — and at the heart of it is Jasprit Bumrah, proving once again why he’s considered one of the game’s modern greats.

As the playoffs heat up, one thing is clear: when the pressure peaks, Bumrah rises.
