"I Didn't Know That", Says Ravindra Jadeja On Surpassing Ishant, Zaheer To Become India's Fifth-Highest Test Wicket-Taker
RNovember 2, 2024: Ravindra Jadeja’s recent performance at Wankhede Stadium was nothing short of spectacular, as he became India’s fifth-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket with his five-wicket haul, surpassing legends Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma.
Reflecting on his performance for India, Jadeja candidly admitted he hadn’t been aware of his milestone. “Taking a five-for for India in Tests is always special. I didn’t know that. I usually check stats when I’m not playing. It’s good to know I’m progressing and taking wickets,” Jadeja remarked at the close of Day 1.
His impressive spell of 5 wickets for 65 runs in 22 overs showcased his skillful variation of pace, crucial for the pitch conditions. Jadeja emphasized the need to adjust his bowling strategy: “You have to vary your pace on this wicket. You can’t bowl too slow; there’s bounce but not much pace.”
As India heads into Day 2, they look to overcome a 149-run deficit with Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant at the crease. Jadeja’s performance not only highlighted his growth as a player but also his vital role in India’s bowling lineup.
