IND vs ENG: Jaiswal Has The Game To Succeed In England, Feels Rahane

June 20, 2025: As India gears up to face England in the opening Test of their new World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, former Indian vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane has backed young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal to shine on English soil.

Speaking to the media ahead of the first Test at Lord’s, Rahane expressed confidence in the left-hander’s technique and temperament, saying, “Jaiswal has the game to succeed in England. He’s a smart player, knows how to adapt, and has shown maturity beyond his years.

A Tough Challenge Awaits

Playing in England has long been a litmus test for subcontinental batters, with conditions often favoring swing and seam movement. But Rahane believes Jaiswal’s solid backfoot game and fearless approach could work to his advantage.

What’s important in England is patience and shot selection. Jaiswal has both. If he spends time early on, he can make it count big,” added Rahane, who has himself scored over 700 runs in England in his career.

Jaiswal’s Rise

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been in exceptional form over the last year, cementing his place in the Test side with aggressive yet calculated innings. His debut Test hundred against the West Indies and subsequent consistency in the home series against Australia caught the attention of selectors and fans alike.

He now faces one of his biggest tests — handling the Dukes ball in early English summer conditions, something few young Indian openers have conquered easily.

India’s Transitional Phase

With the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from Test cricket, Jaiswal’s role at the top becomes even more critical. Captain Shubman Gill and deputy Rishabh Pant will look to Jaiswal to provide solid starts, especially with England expected to unleash a full-strength pace attack under Ben Stokes’ leadership.

Key Test Series Stats to Watch:

  • India’s last series win in England: 2007
  • Last England tour result (2021–22): Series drawn 2–2
  • Jaiswal’s Test average (so far): 48.75
  • England’s likely bowling attack: Anderson, Wood, Robinson, and Stokes

With high stakes, fresh leadership, and rising stars like Jaiswal, the India vs England Test series promises to be a gripping contest. And if Rahane’s confidence is anything to go by, Indian fans may be in for a treat.
