BCCI Introduces Stricter Protocols for Team India Tours

New rules limit family presence and restrict independent player transportation during international tours

New Delhi, January 15: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to enforce stricter protocols for Team India during international tours, according to a report by ESPNcricinfo. These measures aim to ensure better focus and discipline following India’s disappointing performance in the 2024-25 season.

Key Protocols

  • Limited Family Presence: Players’ family members can join them for a maximum of 14 days during tours longer than 45 days. On shorter foreign tours, family members can stay for up to seven days.
  • Restricted Independent Travel: Players will no longer be permitted to use independent transportation for commuting to practice sessions or matches.

The new guidelines were reportedly communicated during a meeting in Mumbai last Saturday involving skipper Rohit Sharma, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar.

India's Recent Struggles

India recently suffered a 3-1 defeat to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, failing to secure a spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final. The series saw dismal performances from captain Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli, who faced significant criticism for their lackluster contributions.

  • Rohit Sharma’s Stats: Scored only 31 runs in three matches at an average of 6.20 during the series.
  • Virat Kohli’s Stats: Managed 190 runs in five matches, averaging 23.75, including one century.

Both players faced challenges throughout the season. Rohit scored 164 runs in eight Tests at an average of 10.93, while Kohli managed 382 runs in 10 matches, averaging 22.87.

What’s Next for Team India?

The revamped protocols aim to bring discipline and focus, ensuring better preparation and performance in future tournaments. With the WTC cycle renewal and other important series on the horizon, the BCCI’s measures reflect its intent to hold players accountable and elevate team performance.
