April 15, 2025: Australia’s legspinner, Adam Zampa, has been ruled out of the remainder of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) due to a recurrence of an earlier shoulder injury, as confirmed by ESPNcricinfo. Zampa, who had featured in Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) first two matches of the tournament as an Impact Player, had relatively high-scoring games, taking figures of 1/48 and 1/46.

Having played 22 IPL matches, Zampa boasts an impressive record with 31 wickets and his best bowling figures of 6/18. However, the injury to his shoulder has made it impossible for him to continue playing in the IPL, and he is now set to miss out until Australia’s upcoming T20I series against the West Indies in late July.

In light of Zampa’s absence, SRH has announced the uncapped Smaran Ravichandran as his replacement for the remainder of the tournament. The 21-year-old left-handed batter from Karnataka has been roped in at his base price of INR 30 lakh.

Ravichandran has proven his ability across various formats, making a significant name for himself in domestic cricket. In the 2025 Ranji Trophy season, he scored 516 runs in seven matches at an average of 64.50, including two centuries, with his highest score being a superb 203. In List A cricket, Ravichandran has accumulated 433 runs from 10 matches at an average of 72.16, including two centuries and a handful of fifties. His performances in T20s have been equally strong, having scored 170 runs in six matches at a strike rate of 170, including a half-century.

With the replacement confirmed, Ravichandran will join SRH as they aim to turn their season around. SRH, currently in ninth place, will be taking on Mumbai Indians in the 33rd match of IPL 2025 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, April 17. Mumbai Indians, after a win against Delhi Capitals, are in seventh position, looking to move up the points table.
