April 4, 2025: Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bowling coach, James Franklin, has expressed confidence in the team’s destructive batting lineup, despite their recent struggles in IPL 2025. The Sunrisers started their campaign with a dominant victory over Rajasthan Royals but have since experienced a series of disappointing losses. Their recent defeats against Lucknow Super Giants, Delhi Capitals, and Kolkata Knight Riders have left the team looking for answers.
The main issues for SRH have been their aggressive batting approach and ineffective death bowling. The team’s batters have been sticking to an attacking mindset, trying to hit boundaries from the first ball, regardless of the situation, which has resulted in back-to-back failures. Franklin acknowledged this and emphasized that while the approach hasn’t worked in recent games, they still have full confidence in their aggressive style of play.
“The attacking brand we’ve shown over the past year hasn’t worked in the last two games,” said Franklin. “We have confidence in our group to return to the style of play we’ve shown before.”
However, it’s not just the batting that’s been a concern. The Sunrisers’ bowlers have struggled in the death overs, giving away crucial runs towards the end of the innings. This has allowed opposing teams to set targets beyond SRH’s reach. Franklin noted that their poor execution in the death overs has been a key factor in their recent defeats. Against Kolkata Knight Riders, SRH bowlers conceded 78 runs in the last five overs, allowing the opposition to reach a daunting total of 200/6.
Franklin acknowledged the need for improvement in this area, admitting that a better execution of plans in the final overs could have kept the total under 180. He also reflected on whether they could have been bolder in their approach during the match and assured that they would be working on rectifying these issues ahead of their next encounter against Gujarat Titans on Sunday.
“We’ll have conversations between myself and the players, focusing on improving our execution in the death overs. We’ll look to come back better,” Franklin concluded.
With SRH hoping to bounce back soon, they’ll be aiming to fix their death bowling and find the right balance between aggression and patience in their batting for the upcoming matches.
