IPL 2025: Glenn Maxwell Ruled Out Due To Fractured Finger, Confirms Punjab Kings

May 1: In a major blow to Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) campaign in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a fractured finger.

The franchise confirmed the development on Thursday through an official statement on social media.

“Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of the remainder of the season due to a finger injury. We wish him a speedy recovery,” PBKS wrote in an Instagram post.

The injury occurred during training ahead of PBKS’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), according to teammate Marcus Stoinis, who revealed that Maxwell initially didn’t think it was serious but later scans showed otherwise.

“Unfortunately, Maxi’s broken his finger,” said Stoinis before the team’s game against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). “He broke it just before the last game at training. He did not think it was too bad, but it ended up getting pretty bad. He had scans, and yeah, the results were not great.”

PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer, speaking at the toss ahead of the CSK clash at Chepauk Stadium, also confirmed the injury but said the team remains confident in its bench strength.

“It is very unfortunate that he’s got a fractured finger,” Iyer said. “To be honest, we have not decided about the replacements yet, but we are pretty strong in our mindset and the players we have outside the playing XI.”

In Maxwell’s absence, PBKS have brought in all-rounder Suryansh Shedge and fielded only three overseas players in their most recent playing XI.

The 36-year-old Maxwell had a disappointing run this IPL season, scoring just 48 runs in six innings, with a best of 30. He also picked up four wickets with his off-spin. He was acquired by PBKS for ₹4.2 crore during the mega auction last year.

Maxwell’s exit is the latest in a string of injury setbacks for IPL 2025, as franchises navigate a grueling tournament phase leading into the business end of the season.
