IPL 2025: KKR Spinner Varun Lauds Angkrish Inning After Dominant Win Over SRH

April 4, 2025: Following Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) dominant 80-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Eden Gardens, KKR’s mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance. Chakravarthy, who was instrumental in the win with his bowling, praised the standout contributions from his teammates, particularly Venkatesh Iyer, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Vaibhav Arora, and Rinku Singh.

In a post-match interview, Chakravarthy reflected on the team’s collective effort, stating, “It was a very good inning by Angkrish, the way Venky took it deep and Rinku finished it. I thought we were 10 over par and I felt we could defend this.” The team’s total of 200/6 proved to be too much for SRH, and Chakravarthy felt confident they could defend the total, thanks to some crucial individual performances.

One of the standout moments of the match was Vaibhav Arora’s impressive spell with the ball. Arora claimed several important wickets, and Chakravarthy was full of praise for his teammate, especially noting that Arora had captained the team for the first time in the absence of regular captain Ajinkya Rahane. Chakravarthy said, “Vaibhav was outstanding, all the wickets he took were important and I was pleased for him. He was captaining us for the first time, he has not played a lot with us and he was on the mark today.”

Varun also emphasized the importance of keeping things in perspective, especially when dealing with dangerous players like Heinrich Klaasen. “You cannot take anything for granted when Heinrich Klaasen is on the field, he is the best batter in the format,” said Chakravarthy, acknowledging the threats posed by SRH’s top-order batters.

After a tough loss in their previous game, KKR focused on maintaining their composure and applying pressure throughout the game. “The last two days were tough for us, we were badly defeated in the last game, so the talk was to go out and stay out on the pitch, accumulate runs, and then score quickly at the end,” Varun noted.

Reflecting on his own performance, Chakravarthy added, “You could bowl well today and go for runs in the next game, just do your practice, hit the gym, and go about the work.” He concluded by highlighting the importance of building on this performance and staying focused for upcoming matches.

With the win, KKR managed to recover from their earlier defeat and demonstrated a complete team effort, setting up an encouraging outlook for the rest of the IPL season.
