IPL 2025: MI Quick Trent Boult Confident ‘300-Plus’ Score Will Be Breached This Season

April 27, 2025: Mumbai Indians’ pace spearhead Trent Boult has expressed confidence that a 300-plus score will be achieved in the ongoing 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), citing the aggressive mindset of batters and favorable conditions for high scoring.

With over 200 runs being crossed 23 times in just 45 matches so far, this season has already witnessed a barrage of boundaries and sixes. Sunrisers Hyderabad currently hold the record for the highest total in the season, having posted 286/6 in a sensational performance against the Rajasthan Royals. Boult believes this historic high-scoring trend will culminate in an unprecedented 300-plus total.

“No doubt, a 300-plus score will be reached this tournament,” Boult said during a special appearance on JioHotstar. “The ball seems to be travelling further, though I’d like to believe it’s still swinging in some parts of the country. From a bowling perspective, the only positive is that batsmen are coming hard, which creates opportunities.”

While such a mammoth total could signal a rough day for bowlers, Boult highlighted that aggressive batting gives bowlers a fighting chance. “If we focus on being accurate, stay aggressive, and give it a real crack, bowlers will have their day at some point. That’s what fans want to see.”

The New Zealand left-armer also spoke about his own performance, especially his success in the death overs. Traditionally not a go-to option in the final phase, Boult has already picked up six wickets in the death this season—his best ever tally in that stage of the game.

“It’s a challenge and an area I’ve always worked on. My mantra has been to keep getting better and never plateau with my skills or performance,” Boult added. “These days, there are so many batters—some we’ve never even heard of or played against—so you’ve got to be on your game. Clarity is key, and executing under pressure makes the difference.”

With five matches remaining in the league stage for most teams, Boult’s insights offer a mix of cautious optimism and the relentless pursuit of excellence. Whether the 300-run barrier is broken or not, one thing is certain—the IPL continues to evolve and push the limits of modern-day T20 cricket.
