IPL 2025: Rashid Khan Stresses Importance Of hunger And process Over Results In Cricket

April 12, 2025: Ahead of the highly anticipated IPL 2025 clash between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), key figures from both camps weighed in on what truly drives success in cricket — and it’s not just talent or results.

GT’s star spinner Rashid Khan shared an introspective take on the importance of “hunger” in sports, explaining that results are the by-product of a process-driven mindset. In a video shared by the IPL, Rashid emphasized the importance of maintaining drive and passion throughout the journey, rather than focusing solely on outcomes.

“You know, definitely hunger is very important. In sports, wherever you are, you should have that. If you don’t have that hunger, then it’s difficult to perform… because the result comes at the end,” Rashid said. “If it comes at the end, then why think about it first? First, think about the thing that we start with.”

Echoing Rashid’s sentiment, LSG head coach Justin Langer shared a story involving West Indian legend Brian Lara to underline the significance of a relentless desire to succeed. Langer highlighted that top-tier players are addicted to improvement.

“I remember talking to Brian Lara one day, and he said, ‘JL, when I have a good day, I make sure I have a great day.’ The most important ingredient of the greatest players is hunger,” Langer said. “Because of that, they train harder, stay healthy, and want more. It’s addictive.”

Gujarat Titans, led by Shubman Gill, are currently sitting atop the points table with four wins in five games. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant’s LSG is placed fifth, having notched up three wins and two losses so far.

Historically, GT has dominated LSG in past encounters, winning four out of five matches. As the two sides lock horns at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, the spotlight won’t just be on skills — but on who wants it more.
