April 10, 2025: Riyan Parag of Rajasthan Royals (RR) found himself at the center of controversy during the IPL 2025 clash against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The incident unfolded during the seventh over when Parag, batting on 26 runs, faced pacer Kulwant Khejroliya. In an attempt to play a shot to third man, Parag appeared to edge the delivery through to wicketkeeper Jos Buttler. The on-field umpire initially gave him out, but Parag opted for a DRS review.
The third umpire’s analysis showed a spike on UltraEdge, indicating that Parag had indeed edged the ball, leading to the dismissal. However, Parag was convinced that the spike was caused by his bat touching the ground rather than an edge. Frustrated with the decision, he briefly engaged in a tense argument with the umpire before reluctantly walking off the field.
The incident quickly gained traction on social media as the video of Parag’s heated exchange with the umpire went viral. Despite his controversial dismissal, Parag’s performance in IPL 2025 has been noteworthy, having scored 135 runs from five innings at a strike rate of 160.71.
In the match, Gujarat Titans posted a formidable total of 217/6, thanks to Sai Sudharsan’s 82 off 53 balls. Rajasthan Royals, in reply, were bowled out for 159 in 19.2 overs, falling short by 58 runs. RR are currently seventh in the points table, with two wins out of five matches. The team will look to bounce back in their upcoming clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 13 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
