April 6, 2025: After Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) commanding 50-run victory over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL 2025, Riyan Parag shared insights into his cautious approach during his innings. The match, held at Mullanpur, saw RR bowlers Jofra Archer, Sandeep Sharma, and Maheesh Theekshana shine, alongside a solid half-century from Yashasvi Jaiswal, helping RR register a crucial win.
Parag, who has been an integral part of the RR lineup, explained his strategy for starting slow during the innings. “That was the plan; getting runs in the powerplay was crucial. We knew the ball would stick a bit, so my plan was to take it easy till the 16th over and then accelerate,” said Parag. Although he wasn’t able to execute the acceleration phase perfectly, he expressed satisfaction with his contribution to the team.
On his captain, Sanju Samson, Parag praised his leadership skills, calling him “a great leader,” and added that having Samson back was a major boost for the team. “Having him back is a great plus for us,” Parag added.
The uncapped Indian cricketer also touched upon the team’s batting strategy, particularly how they planned the number three slot. “Today, the plan was we’d decide who walks in after the sixth over,” Parag explained. He also recounted an interesting moment during the last ball of the match when he had a brief discussion with Jofra Archer regarding the field placements.
This victory was a significant one for Rajasthan Royals, as it marked their second win in IPL 2025, putting them in seventh place on the points table, while Punjab Kings, suffering their first loss, remained in fourth.
