March 27, 2025: Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa shared his thoughts on Yashasvi Jaiswal’s innings after Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) victory over Rajasthan Royals in the ongoing IPL 2025 season. Speaking on Jio Hotstar, Uthappa discussed the crucial missed opportunity for Jaiswal during the match.
Uthappa highlighted that the young batter had a golden chance to take charge and guide his team through a challenging situation. “This was an opportunity for him to take on the responsibility and guide his team through,” Uthappa said. Jaiswal, having already been settled at the crease, faced the task of batting on a surface that wasn’t as conducive to high-scoring as some of the pitches seen in recent matches.
Uthappa pointed out that the current format of the game, with the impact player rule, allows teams to field up to eight specialist batters and an all-rounder, essentially providing a deep batting lineup. “With that depth, batters have the freedom to attack, but reading the conditions and the match situation is crucial,” he added.
Unfortunately for Jaiswal, Uthappa felt that he failed to adjust to the situation and missed the chance to capitalize on the conditions, which ultimately cost Rajasthan Royals in the match.
