IPL 2025: Shubman Gill Hails Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s Explosive Knock After RR Thrash GT
April 29, 2025: Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill conceded that his team was thoroughly outplayed by Rajasthan Royals (RR) after a crushing eight-wicket defeat at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur during their IPL 2025 clash.
RR chased down a daunting target of 210 with remarkable ease, reaching 212/2 in just 15.5 overs, thanks to a scintillating century from young batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The right-hander smashed 101 off just 38 deliveries, peppering the ground with 7 fours and 11 sixes, leaving the Titans shell-shocked and the home crowd ecstatic.
“They took the game away from us in the powerplay and credit to them for that,” said Gill in the post-match presentation. “There were a couple of things that we could have done better, but it’s very easy to sit out and say those things. Some chances came our way early, we couldn’t grab those. In hindsight, there are areas we need to work on as a group.”
Notably, Gill did not take the field during the Royals’ innings. He later revealed he was experiencing a minor back spasm and had been advised caution by the team physio ahead of GT’s next fixture.
“Felt a little spasm in my back and we have a game in a couple of days, so the physio didn’t want to take a chance,” he explained.
Despite the heavy defeat, Gill emphasized the importance of moving forward with a fresh mindset. “What happened in the previous match—win or lose—we take one game at a time. The next match is in Ahmedabad, where we’ve had a good run, so hopefully we’ll continue that.”
Gill also acknowledged the brilliance of Suryavanshi’s innings, which left little room for a GT comeback. “It was his day. His hitting was just tremendous, and he made full use of his day,” said the GT skipper.
The loss puts pressure on Gujarat Titans as they approach the business end of the season, while Rajasthan Royals, buoyed by their young star’s heroics, look like strong contenders for a top-two finish.
