IPL 2025: Varun Aaron Calls DC’s Vipraj Nigam ‘Great Value For Investment’ After Win Over RCB

April 11, 2025: In Delhi Capitals’ thrilling victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Thursday, spin all-rounder Vipraj Nigam’s outstanding debut IPL performance caught the eye of experts, including former Indian pacer Varun Aaron. Aaron praised Nigam’s economical bowling and significant impact on the game, calling him a “great value for the investment” made by Delhi Capitals.

Nigam’s impressive spell saw him take 2 wickets for just 18 runs in his 4 overs, boasting a remarkable economy rate of 4.5. His victims included two of the biggest names in Indian cricket—Virat Kohli and all-rounder Krunal Pandya—making his performance even more special. Aaron, speaking on Match Centre Live, highlighted Nigam’s contribution not just with the ball but also with his ability to be destructive with the bat.

“Vipraj was brilliant tonight, he’s a great find for Delhi Capitals. He’s contributed both with the ball and, as we’ve seen, can be destructive with the bat too. Going forward, he is great value for the investment Delhi Capitals made in him. We need more domestic players like him to step up in the IPL and help take their teams over the line,” Aaron said.

Aaron’s sentiments were echoed by former South African cricketer Mark Boucher, who also commended the IPL for discovering such exciting young talent. Boucher, who was also on Match Centre Live, joked about wishing he could take a couple of Indian spinners back to South Africa, highlighting the depth of spin talent in the country.

“There are so many different players stepping up for their teams—many of whom we had not really heard of before, at least not on the international stage. That is the beauty of the IPL—it gives these guys a platform to perform and suddenly announce themselves to the world. India is truly blessed with spinners. I wish I could take a couple back to South Africa with me,” Boucher added.

Nigam’s rise to prominence comes after a successful stint in the UPT20 League 2024, where he took 20 wickets in 11 matches for Lucknow Falcons. His IPL debut also showcased his versatility, as he not only contributed with the ball (1/35 against Lucknow Super Giants) but also played a crucial cameo with the bat, scoring 39 off 15 balls to help DC chase down a daunting target of 210 from a precarious position.

So far in IPL 2025, Nigam has claimed 5 wickets in 4 matches at an average of 20.20 and an economy rate of 8.41, with his best bowling figures being 2/18. With his all-round capabilities, Nigam has quickly become one of the promising young talents to watch in this year’s IPL season.

Delhi Capitals’ investment in Nigam, bought for Rs 50 lakh, seems to be paying off as the young player continues to make waves in his debut season, showcasing his immense potential on the biggest stage of Indian cricket.
