IPL 2025: Virender Sehwag Slams Ravindra Jadeja’s Strike Rate, Questions CSK’s Batting Order After SRH Loss

April 26, 2025: Former India opener Virender Sehwag has come down hard on Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) senior all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja following his underwhelming knock against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their recent IPL 2025 match. Promoted to No.4 in the batting order, Jadeja managed just 21 runs off 17 deliveries before getting bowled by Kamindu Mendis.

Speaking on Cricbuzz during the innings break, Sehwag said, “Wasn’t I saying that I feel like going home midway through the tournament? CSK’s batters are also perhaps thinking that way. Their batters are wondering when they will get back home.” He continued his criticism, stating, “At least one of them should have taken responsibility. Jadeja has got a useless strike rate, but at least try to stay out there till the 15th or 18th over.”

Jadeja, the former CSK captain, currently stands as the third-highest scorer for the team this season with 166 runs in nine matches at an average of 27.67 and a strike rate of 125.75 — stats that Sehwag feels don’t meet modern T20 standards.

Sehwag also questioned the team’s batting reshuffle, especially the decision to send Sam Curran at No.3. “I can’t understand what Sam Curran is doing at No.3 in this line-up… when you have Brevis, play him at No.3,” he said. Sehwag went on to suggest a revised order: “Then Dube can come in next, followed by Jadeja, Sam Curran, and Deepak Hooda.”

On debut, Dewald Brevis made a solid impression, scoring 42 off 25 balls, including four sixes. Meanwhile, Dube and Hooda added brief cameos with 12 and 22 respectively. CSK were bowled out for 154, which SRH chased down with five wickets to spare.

With this being CSK’s seventh loss in nine games, their playoff hopes now hang by a thread.
