IPL Auction 2025: CSK Reunites with Ravichandran Ashwin for ₹9.75 Crore, RCB Splurges ₹22+ Crore on Venkatesh Iyer

November 24, 2024: RCB makes headlines by crossing ₹22 crore for Venkatesh Iyer—surpassing even Virat Kohli, who was retained for ₹21 crore.

In a highly anticipated moment, star Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was bought by five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for ₹9.75 crore during the IPL 2025 mega auction held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Ashwin, who has been playing for Rajasthan Royals (RR) since 2022, was a key addition for CSK as they reunited the spinner with captain MS Dhoni.

Ashwin’s IPL 2024 season was less memorable, as he managed only nine wickets in 15 matches at an average of 51.88 and an economy rate of 7.12. Despite these stats, the veteran spinner continues to hold immense value in the T20 format.

The bidding for Ashwin commenced at his base price of ₹2 crore, with CSK immediately showing interest and initiating the process. The reunion of Ashwin with his former franchise, alongside the legendary MS Dhoni, is expected to bolster CSK’s spin department for the upcoming IPL season.
