IPL Auction 2025: Jos Buttler Joins Gujarat Titans for ₹15.75 Crore in Thrilling Bidding War
November 24, 2024: The Gujarat Titans (GT) made a massive addition to their squad on Day 1 of the IPL 2025 mega auction, securing England captain and star batter Jos Buttler for ₹15.75 crore. Buttler, widely regarded as one of the most destructive batters in T20 cricket, will now don the Gujarat jersey, bringing his immense experience and firepower to the team’s batting lineup.
Buttler, the Orange Cap winner of the 2022 IPL season, has been a standout performer in the league since joining Rajasthan Royals in 2018. Over 107 matches, he has amassed 3,582 runs, including 7 centuries and 19 fifties, showcasing his ability to dominate at the top of the order.
Despite his stellar contributions, the Rajasthan Royals released Buttler ahead of the 2025 auction, paving the way for a bidding war that saw multiple teams vying for his services.
The auction began with Buttler’s former franchise, the Rajasthan Royals, taking the initial bid. The Gujarat Titans quickly entered the fray, driving the price past ₹9.75 crore. At this point, Rajasthan opted out, leaving Punjab Kings to challenge Gujarat.
Punjab Kings, fresh off their record-breaking purchase of Shreyas Iyer, aggressively pushed the bidding to ₹13.5 crore. When Punjab withdrew, the Lucknow Super Giants entered, escalating the price further. Ultimately, Gujarat triumphed with a winning bid of ₹15.75 crore, marking one of the highest buys of the auction.
Buttler is expected to open alongside Gujarat Titans’ captain Shubman Gill, forming a formidable top order. Known for his explosive starts and ability to accelerate in the PowerPlay, Buttler’s addition significantly strengthens GT’s batting lineup.
Recently returning from an injury layoff, Buttler showcased his form during England’s West Indies tour and the Abu Dhabi T10 league, where he registered back-to-back half-centuries. Gujarat will hope he replicates this form in the upcoming IPL season.
Gujarat Titans are methodically building a strong team for IPL 2025. Earlier in the day, they secured South African pacer Kagiso Rabada for ₹10.75 crore. Adding Buttler to the mix ensures both the batting and bowling departments gain international firepower.
With the addition of Buttler and Rabada, Gujarat has positioned itself as a strong contender for the upcoming season.
