pril 14, 2025: Delhi Capitals batter Karun Nair expressed disappointment after his blistering 89 off 40 balls couldn’t carry his side over the line in a high-scoring thriller against Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday. Chasing a stiff target of 206, Delhi Capitals fell 12 runs short, suffering their first loss of IPL 2025.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Nair said the team would take this as a learning experience:
“I’m disappointed that we couldn’t win the match. We lost wickets at regular intervals, so it was difficult for us in the end. We needed a set batter to stay till the end. But again, we can learn from this and improve on it.”
Nair was drafted into the playing XI as a replacement for Faf du Plessis, who missed the match. The experienced batter made the most of his chance and spoke about staying mentally ready for the opportunity:
“We always knew that a few of us sitting outside had to be ready. Mentally, I was ready and obviously looking forward to the chance. I’m happy I got the opportunity, and it’s about capitalizing on it.”
On facing Jasprit Bumrah, arguably the best T20 bowler in the world, Nair said:
“It was about picking the right balls and playing to the areas that I wanted to. He’s the best bowler at the moment, so I had to be watchful. But I just backed myself and the areas where I wanted to score.”
Despite the loss, Delhi Capitals remain in a strong position with four wins from five matches, currently sitting second on the points table. Their next challenge comes against Rajasthan Royals on April 16, once again at their home ground in Delhi.
